Minutes Westport Village Commission
Call to Order: 6:43 p.m.
Attendees: Gordon O’Neill (Commissioner); Trevor Moore (Commissioner); Shelley Lonergan (Commissioner); Cheyenne Peterson (Clerk/Treasurer)
Additions to Agenda: Billing breakdown/requirements from contractors. Motion from Trevor, seconded by Shelley.
Adoption of Agenda: Motion to adopt from Trevor, Shelley seconded the motion.
Previous minutes review: Minutes from April 16th, 2024 village meeting were reviewed and adopted. Motion to adopt from Shelley, second motion from Trevor.
- Monthly Financial Statements:
a. April financials 2024: Motion to adopt from Trevor, seconded by Shelley. - Old Business:
a. Community Hall doors and locks/repairs/replacement: Gordie still in contact with South West Glass, they still say they are coming down this month to repair and leave the keys with a commissioner.
b. Electrical work Rec Hall&Community Hall (Including ceiling fans in rec hall): Gordie has not been in touch with Shawn Hudson as of yet. Contacted Darren again to see if he was still willing and available. Darren said he would get here to fix when he can.
c. Rec Hall Dehumidifier: Has been purchased. Total came to $1,800 from Home Hardware. Will be a couple months before it arrives.
d. Ambulance purchase: Still holding off for now as things seem to be running smoother now with the ambulance in Freeport. Waiting for more funding as well, the GoFundMe is now up and running.
e. Life rings on Wharves: Shelley has acquired two life rings from Penny and is just waitng for them to be installed. Gordie is going to reach out to Cookes to see if they can reimburse for the second life ring. Both life rings are 30” and come with containers for storage.
f. Banking access for new clerk: No dates lined up yet due to scheduling conflicts. Will be inviting Brian to the June meeting to set up accounts for the MFRs.fundraising.
g. Job Opportunities: Three new job posting to be posted ie. Snow Removal; Lawn Care; Garbage Collection. - New Business:
a. Road Repairs: Gordie has tried to get in touch with Todd for the list but he has yet to receive a response. He has called the Department of Highways in New minas but they just keep transferring him to Todd. Next call he makes will be to MLA Jill Balser. Shelley offered to write a letter to the Municipality of Digby and Jill Balser about the road conditions on the island, specifically Lighthouse road and as them if they have any plans to do repairs.
b. Stairs down to the beach COMPLETED: Stairs have been repaired and completed by Jeff Thompson, they can now be placed to go down to the beach, stairs are in two pieces for easy installation.
c. Billing requirements/breakdown: The Village will be doing flat rates ONLY for contract jobs posted by the Commission.
