Minutes Village of Westport Commission
Call to order: 6:42 p.m.
Attendees: Gordie O’Neill (Commissioner); Shelley Lonergan (Commissioner); Trevor Moore (Commissioner); Cheyenne Peterson (Clerk/Treasurer) Additions to Agenda: 2024-2025 Village Rate Approval. Adoption of Agenda: Motion to adopt from Trevor, seconded by Shelley.
Previous Minutes Review: Minutes from the December 5th, 2023 Village meeting were reviewed and adopted. Motion to adopt from Shelley, seconded by Trevor.
Monthly Financial Statements:
a. December Financials 2023: Motion to Adopt from Trevor, seconded by Shelley.
b. January Financials 2024: Motion to Adopt from Trevor, seconded by Shelley.
c. February Financials 2024: Motion to Adopt from Trevor, seconded by Shelley.
Old Business:
a. Asset retirement Obligations Assessment: To be removed from next agenda and reviewed in budget.
b. Comm Hall doors and locks/repairs/replacement: Ones that have been replaced are in working order, for the rest that still needs to be completed, Gordie will check in with contractor.
c. Island Medical Services: Subject to change, as of now the Ambulance is to stay at the bay with the paramedics swapping out every shift now rather than take the ambo out. No further updates at this time. To be removed from agenda.
d. Hall Rentals/Super Seniors request: Matter already discussed and resolved. To be removed from agenda.
e. Electrical work Rec Hall & Comm Hall: Gordie is going to check in with electrician hired (Darren) as he has not been seen around, Gordie will update at next meeting.
f. Ceiling Fans Rec Hall: See note for section above (e.)
g. Rec Hall Heater: Problem resolved, was a birds nest in the heater, it had since been cleaned and is back in working order. To be removed from agenda.
h. Rec Hall Dehumidifier: Haven’t contacted Home Hardware as of yet, Gordie will reach out and order one and then see if Darren can do the install.
i. Ambulance Purchase: Will discuss further in the next year. Both Fire Department and Village is looking for funding due to circumstances arising. Gordie is going to reach out to members in the community and Jill Balser to see about other funding
to assist and potentially setting up a GoFundMe towards the purchase.
j. Life Rings on Wharves: Shelley is looking into getting some, she is going to get in touch with the Harbor Authority (Penney) and see if they would be willing to donate one. As per Gordie, Cookes Aquaculture has offered to donate one, he will
check back in with them.
k. Banking access for new clerk: Cheyenne is going to call and set up an appointment in the next week for all members of the councill to attend.
New Business:
a. Job Opportunities: Handyman posting. It has been written up and posted on the website, will try and post in the store as well.
b. Village Rate: For the 2024-2025 year, the Village Rate has not changed from the previous year. Motion for approval from Shelley, seconded by Trevor.
